We are fortunate enough to live in an age where technology is constantly evolving. The traditional means of media consumption have changed, some despise it and the wise will embrace it. For those that choose to embrace it, the reward is opportunity. What better time has there ever been to grasp the opportunity to “get-in” and provide content? Get in where, on what, and how? That would be up to you and the limits you allow your conscious mind to acknowledge.
With all the relatively new gadgets available nowadays, it’s not that difficult to find a place to fit in. Let’s examine a product category for instance, and see how it relates to your knowledge and skill. Digital media is hot, still in its infancy if you consider how rapidly technology is expanded or tweaked. So where do you fit in? By taking a look at some of the opportunities in this expanding world of digital media, you will surely find where you fit in. If we break down a handful of types of entertainment from the consumer side, your opportunity to “get in” is likely revealed.
• Music
• Reading
• Movies
• Gaming
For years these forms of media entertainment have been delivered through cable TV, software, DVD or movie rental, and book stores. The consumer would need several distinct devices in order to enjoy this media.
Something they all have in common in the digital realm is that they are based on application design or “apps”. For digital reading, aside from computers we now have available to us portable reading devices, all sorts and sizes, Android, Kindle, Nook you get the point.
A standard application format is not available at this time. Therefore there are as many applications for each device as there are devices. And equally as many file types that are supported by the apps. Ultimately we arrive at the products these devices are capable of being used for.
These devices are capable of supporting all the consumer media I’ve described above, but now it’s in the digital realm. A great place to “get in” would depend on your knowledge and skill in each of the relevant areas. Maybe developing apps is your area of expertise, or you’re a musician. If making videos is your thing there’s another place to get in. Another would be to write a quality eBook and provide even more content for these devices.
I’ve only touched on a small portion of the digital realm, but the same basic principle can be applied as broadly as your mind will take you. Take advantage of the digital world we now live in, and grasp the opportunity to provide rich media content for all the digital and mobile devices.
